The “History of Fashion” project is an academic research and technical course about existing historical garments, designed to give an in-depth look at the history of clothing throughout time.
As part of the course, we were asked to reconstruct an outfit from a historical period according to the historical sources.
The period I worked on was 1815-1830, known as the Romantic era. The outfit I chose was from 1820. It comprises of a dress and a matching short fitted jacket know as a spencer.
The dress and spencer were worn by members of the Jane family who were West Country farmers.
